Designed as an office building
De Walvis was designed by the architect W.F. Lugthart and built in 1964. At that time, it was the first new office building on Bickerseiland. Four plots were planned, but neighbourhood residents rebelled. They demanded a mix of residential and commercial properties for this area. With success as eventually only two new office buildings were built ensuring that Bickerseiland became a livable residential area.
The Maarsen Groep, together with KAAN Architects, is going to modernize De Walvis as a whole. It will transform into a good, modern and flexible office building. The renovation offers the opportunity to rebuild sustainably with attention to the environment and the surroundings of the property. From 2019, De Walvis is available for new companies.
ROOF TERRACE AND A GREEN PUBLIC SPACE
De Walvis will be a great place to work in. But don’t forget the outside space: a roof terrace and lots of greenery. A reason why people will love to work here.
The public green space on the ground level of the building offers you the opportunity to discover the rest of the world via the waterways, like many citizens of Amsterdam before you.
Ample parking space
De Walvis has plenty of private parking. Outstanding for an office situated in the heart of the city centre. Also the parking spaces are part of the public green space and have a friendly appearance.
